The rugs are handwoven and made of wool. The golden age of ryijys production was in the 1930s-70s. In modern times, they have become hugely popular again in home decoration

Rugs on the wall are eye-catchers in the room.Usually they are attached to the wall with a metal rod such as a curtain rod.

In addition to rugs, many other wall hangings are common in Finland. For example täkänä, a double wall cloth. These double wall cloths can be used on the wall on both sides.
